How to reach Bolzano

Arriving by plane

From Verona

Verona’s Valerio Catullo Airport is connected to the train station of Verona, that is, Verona Porta Nuova, via the Verona Airlink 199 service. This shuttle runs daily from 5.35 to 20.30 every 20 minutes, and from 20:30 to 23:10 every 40 minutes. A single ride ticket costs 7.00€.

All travellers flying to Verona Airport can purchase a combined ticket (from here), which includes both the Verona Airlink 199 and a train to Bolzano. From Verona Porta Nuova station, trains to Bolzano run every hour.

From Venice

Venice is served by two airports: Venezia Marco Polo and Treviso Canova. Both are connected to the main train stations – Venezia Mestre and Venezia Santa Lucia – via regular bus services. From either station, you can reach Bolzano in 4 hours.

Deutsche Bahn Eurocity also offers a train from Venezia Mestre to Bolzano. The journey takes 2h 44m. For all other train connections, you will have to change in Verona Porta Nuova.

From Milan or Bergamo

The closest train stations to Milano Malpensa airport are Milano Cadorna, Milano Centrale and Milano Porta Garibaldi. The Milano Linate airport is connected to the city centre via bus or metro. From any main train station in Milan, you can reach Bolzano in around 3 hours.

If arriving at Milano Bergamo Orio al Serio airport, you can purchase a ticket (from here) for a direct bus that takes you to Verona Porta Nuova in 1h 35m. Then, from Verona Porta Nuova station, a train will take you to Bolzano every hour. Check timetables here.

From Bologna

From Bologna Marconi Airport, the Marconi Express connects the airport with Bologna train station every 7 minutes between 05:40 and 24:00. From Bologna train station, you can get to Bolzano in about 3 hours. Check here for the train schedule. Flixbus also operates direct buses from Bologna to Bolzano.

From Rome

If arriving in Rome, Trenitalia offers a train (called “Freccia”) that takes you to Bolzano in approximately 5 hours.

From Innsbruck

The airport of Innsbruck is easily accessible by train or bus. Bus route F connects the main station of Innsbruck with the airport’s main building. The journey takes about 20 minutes. From the train station of Innsbruck you can get to Bolzano in 2 hours. Check the train schedule here. Alternatively, Flixbus offers airport shuttle services between the airport and Bolzano.

From Munich

If you arrive in Munich, take the S8 (Metro) to the central station. From the central station there is a EuroCity train to Bolzano every two hours. Check out German railways or Austrian railways , as both of them provide transportation on this track (4-hour trip).
Alternatively, Alto Adige Südtirol Bus offers airport shuttle services between the airport and Bolzano. Tickets cost 50€ – 75€. Similar offers are by Flixbus.

Arriving by train

One of the best ways to get to Bolzano is by train. The station is only 5 walk from the central Walther square.

Arriving by car

If you plan to drive, please note that the historic centre of Bolzano is a restricted traffic zone and is monitored by an automatic control system with cameras. To avoid penalties, we recommend that you follow the signs to the car parks in the city center.

Coming from the south

Take the Bolzano Sud motorway exit and park at the Fiera, which has around 1300 spaces. From there, you can find public buses to the centre every 15 minutes or the train every 30 minutes.

Coming from the north

Exit at Bolzano Nord and park at the “Bolzano Centro” car Park in Via Mayr Nusser (1200 spaces), which is only a few minutes’ walking distance from the centre.
